[V.] Teaching Practice


5.1 Procedure of teaching

I started my teaching at the second week after I got the observation and teaching assistants in the first week. To fill out the SEAMEO requirements to teach in the adequate 20 hours, I teach two classes only which in 7-Generosity and 7-Charity in the second and third week. This is the class schedule:

5.2 Time management and organizing activities

Because of each meeting only 1 hour, I arrange the classes with time limit. For example, for the introduction activities, I will start with 15 minutes, and the next 20 minutes, I will continue with the deepening discussion, and the 10 minutes after that, it can be more interaction to know the students knowledge, and the last 15 minutes I will review the material by asking them some question related to recent material, and wrap up in the conclusion, then closing.


5.3 Problem solving

In the middle of my teaching, I also have some difficulties:

    * Language barrier, sometimes a some students still talking in Tagalog since they are not fluent in English
    * A long duration for students copying notes from the power point
    * The time that sometimes out of the time limit

And how I overcome those problems:

    * Since some students still using Tagalog, I often remind them to ask in English, or sometimes the student asking their friend for the translations, and my cooperative teacher also help them to translate it
    * I give them the time for copying the material, and if it not finished yet, I ask them to saw their friends notes that already done. Or, they can take notes from home since the material is on Canvas already, that they can access everywhere and every time
      * More time arrangement and sometimes I continue the material in the next meeting


5.4 Classroom management

There are different case in two classes (7-Generosity and 7-Charity) management. The class condition, for 7-Generosity, they are more quiet and controllable than 7-Charity that more active and noise. So to manage the classroom, I use different treatment as well. For the 7-Generosity since they are quiet and controllable, I often make some interaction with them, also make the activity more in a fun way. While 7-Charity, they are good in discussion and also asking a lot of question. I am not often give them an activity since it will make the class noise and uncontrollable. Or when both classes start unconducive, I will ask them are they listening to me or not. And also the class president also help me to manage the situation in the class.
